A LOCAL VOICE FOR DISTRICT 4 ;
A STRONG LEADER FOR THE COUNTY

SUPERVISOR WARREN SLOCUM

Welcome!

As a San Mateo County Supervisor, I am partnering with all segments of the community to strengthen our connections, celebrate our diverse cultural heritages, and address critical needs in order to improve the quality of life for the people in the 4th District and the county as a whole. We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and I want all community members to thrive!

Working with colleagues, community leaders and staff, I am focused on ways to:

  • Improve our transportation systems. Traffic is real and it impacts us all. I was recently appointed to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), the regional planning organization for the San Francisco Bay Area, the fifth largest region in the nation. I am focused on the creation of an integrated Bay Area transit system, livable communities and the intersection between transportation investments, housing and other land use decisions.
  • Increase and protect the housing supply in our county. In 2016, I co-chaired the “Closing the Jobs Housing Gap Task Force” with 54 community leaders including electeds, business, labor and nonprofit leaders from throughout the County and we are working to implement strategies that came forth under an effort now called, Home for All.
  • Support our veterans.  At the beginning of 2016, I pledged that we would redouble our efforts and put an end veteran homelessness. In January 2015, the One Day Homeless Count identified 183 homeless veterans in our county; today the number of unsheltered veterans stands at 33. We will find homes for our vets, and “leave no one behind.”
  • Strengthen pathways to stability for youth and young adults. I am actively involved in community-led initiatives in North Fair Oaks and East Palo Alto that provide at-risk youth with the academic tutoring, mentorship, and first time employment that they need in order to succeed.
  • Engage the immigrant community. Over 250,000 residents are born outside of the United States, including my wife and other family members. In 2016, I initiated the Office of Immigrant Support and Coordination to serve our diverse immigrant community, and a year later, I affirmed the county’s support of all residents, regardless of immigration status. While many immigrants lead stable and secure lives, there are others who are in need of services and supports that they may not know how to access.
  • Invest Measure K (formerly A) dollars in programs and infrastructure to support the needs of San Mateo County, especially requests that serve children and strengthen the safety net of services for our County’s underserved.

One of my top priorities for District 4 is the successful implementation of the Community Plan for the North Fair Oaks Community and the Middlefield Road Improvement Project. I am working closely with the community on each of the phases of these important projects.

As a Supervisor, I welcome your ideas, questions and comments. I hope to hear from you as we tackle with the issues before us—my door is always open.
